Woof woof (and meow)!
After a hot summer day, you want to take advantage of the cooler air and give your four-legged friend another chance to run around. When you arrive at a large open area with bodies of water, you decide to take off the leash. As you walk back to the car, you throw a ball, and another dog comes running over as well. That’s when it happens: your dog takes off and attacks the other dog.
We humans increasingly view dogs as members of the family, which is exactly why they should be just as well protected as their owners. In Berlin and other German states, dog owners are required by law to carry dog owner liability insurance. A four-legged friend is welcomed into the family with great joy, but owning a pet also comes with certain costs and responsibilities. Food, walks, vet visits, and even damage caused by the dog can quickly become a costly burden. As the owner, you should be protected against precisely these enormous costs.
Good to know: Insurance companies do not require your four-legged friends to be on a leash or wear a muzzle. So dog owners can let their dogs run free even without a leash. However, a leash is recommended, because dogs sometimes like to do things their own way, no matter how well they usually obey commands like “sit,” “down,” and “stay.”
